You’ve got your Curly Life products ready to go, but now it’s time to find the styling technique that works best for your curls. With so many options like praying hands, Denman brush, raking, and the bowl method, it can be overwhelming to choose. That’s why we’ve created this mini guide to help you personalise your wash day technique and achieve stunning curls.
First, start your routine with Bouclème Hydrating Hair Cleanser. Wet your hair and massage the product into your scalp, enjoying a mini massage to release tension. Rinse thoroughly and follow up with Bouclème Curl Conditioner. This super hydrating formula replenishes moisture without weighing down your curls.
While still in the shower, divide your hair into sections and leave the conditioner in as you detangle using a flexi brush, starting from the ends and working your way up. This helps the beneficial ingredients penetrate your cuticles and prepare your curls for styling. You can choose to leave Bouclème Curl Conditioner in, rinse it out partially, or fully depending on your curls’ thirstiness.
Now it’s time for styling! Experiment with the techniques below and find what feels good for your hair. Remember, there’s no single “right” way, and you might even come up with your own hybrid method. Let us know if you do, as we love seeing how you make it your own.
Praying Hands Technique:
Best for reducing frizz and elongating curls.
– Rub your favourite styler between your palms, such as Bouclème Curl Defining Gel or Bouclème Super Hold Styler.
– Take a section of hair and smooth the product down its length, sandwiched between your palms.
– Repeat this process for all sections, stretching out your curls, smoothing cuticles, and enhancing definition.
Raking Technique:
Best for creating curl clumps and achieving definition.
– Divide your hair into smaller sections for more definition and volume.
– Apply Bouclème Curl Cream or Bouclème Curl Defining Gel to your hands and rake them through each section, from roots to ends.
– Give each section a little shake to encourage natural curl formation, and continue until your entire head is styled.
Denman Brush Styling Technique:
Best for creating uniform curls, aid in enhancing spirals and corkscrew curls.
– Apply your favorite styler, like Bouclème Curl Defining Gel, to your hair.
– Work in sections and use a Denman brush, sliding it down the length of your hair with the brush’s head facing upward.
– As you reach the end of each section, twist the brush downwards to release the hair.
– Gently scrunch the curls and repeat the process for the remaining sections.
– Once your hair is fully dry, use Flora & Curl African Citrus Bloom Superfruit Hair Oil to scrunch out any crunchiness, reduce frizz, and separate bigger clumps for a natural look.
Bowl Method:
Best for creating curl clumps and weightless hydration, especially for fine, wavy, and curly hair that tends to have “stringy curls.”
– On soaking wet hair, apply Bouclème Curl Cream followed by Bouclème Curl Defining Gel.
– Fill a bowl with warm water and dip your head into the water a few times, turning your head and scrunching your curls after each dip.
– This technique ensures even product distribution and locks in moisture.
– Afterward, plop your hair using a microfibre to remove excess water before proceeding to dry your curls.
Try these techniques and find the one that works best for you. Don’t be afraid to experiment and adapt them to suit your unique curls. With our products, you’ll achieve beautiful, defined curls that make you feel confident and ready to take on the world.
