It’s no secret that curly hair can get a little frizzy. Refreshes are ideal both to reduce frizz and help minimise knots. Knots increase when hair is dry; so refreshed, moisturised curls result in less dryness and therefore less knots. Refreshes are important both for defined, popping curls and for simpler wash days.
Welcome to our super simple, realistic and practical curl refresh guide. Most of us have jobs to get to and places to be, so a quick spritz and scrunch is all we can afford! Let’s simplify your day to day life and get started.
Method #1
- Fastest option
- Takes approx 1-2 minutes
Spritz a refresh spray throughout your hair. Scrunch it in to help encourage curl definition. Spritz a little more and let it soak into your curls. Refresh mists generally are water based and are infused with an array of essential oils and hydrating ingredients to help reduce frizz through rehydrating.
Method #2
- Faster than drenching your whole head, but not as fast as method #1
- Takes approx 3-5 minutes
For a more targeted approach, spritz your refresh spray into your palms. Rub your hands together. Section areas of concern. Scrunch your hands into your hair. Repeat as needed. This method allows you to target areas in need of extra help.
How often to refresh
How often to refresh your curls is entirely a personal preference. It is generally recommended to refresh your curls on days 2 or 3. Continue to refresh curls as needed.
De-frizzing roots
From the moment I leave the shower, my roots develop frizz! As you can imagine, the amount of frizz my roots create compounds. By day 2, I’ve got a cloud of frizz following me! I tried every refresh spray, but none worked on my roots. They were all good for redefining curls, but not very effective on my roots.
I normally use Rizos Curls Alcohol-Free Volumizing Hair Spray for adding extra volume, but I knew that it also gives hold and works as a finishing spray. I decided to spray some of this on my roots and glide my hands over my frizz. I am so happy with the results! Instantly, my crown of frizz goes down. The best part is that it actually stays down all day. I love the refresh results Rizos Curls Alcohol-Free Volumizing Hair Spray leaves me. Even better, I love how versatile it is! I couldn’t write about refreshes without mentioning this little root refresh hack I discovered.
Refreshing strands
This hairspray would not work as a refresh for your strands. Luckily, there’s a lot of refresh products to choose from. From Duella Curl Refresher Spray is an effective, budget friendly mist that helps curls bounce back up to their washday state.
