Rizos Curls became famous for their iconic hydrating shampoo, deep conditioner and curl cream trio. Soon after, they grew their line with more products that quickly became favourites in the curly hair community. From Vitamin C masks to peppermint scrubs, their line has progressed so much. One of their earlier additions is their Light Hold Gel.

Putting it to the test
Still not sure if this is for you? Not to worry! I’ve tested and tried this gel extensively to help you decide if it’s right for you. Each time I used it, I used Rizos Curls Curl Defining Cream underneath it. I gently raked this cream in before going ahead with the gel. I have hip length, thick, coarse curly hair.
Scrunching the gel in
When scrunching the gel in, I flipped my hair upside down and scrunched in the gel section by section.
When scrunching the gel in, I was left with defined curls and long lasting results. Even though this is a lightweight gel, I still had 4 days of solid definition. I had great volume as well, thanks to it being a lightweight formula.
(In the picture attached to this article, I scrunched it in)
Raking the gel in
Again starting with my hair flipped upside down, I gently raked the gel in. I started at the bottom of my strands and slowly distributed it throughout the rest of my strands. I also did this section by section.
When raking the gel in, I was left with stretched, less defined and slightly frizzy results. I go through phases where sometimes I prefer ultra definition, while other times I prefer a stretched look. Currently, I’m enjoyed a more defined look, so the results that this raking method left me with weren’t my favourite. My curls stayed this way for once again, approx 4 days.
Overall findings
Longevity – lasts 4 days of definition
Crunch – no crunch at all
Scent – light and refreshing (coconut/lemon/lime scent)
Best application technique – scrunching in small sections
Volume – doesn’t weigh down hair, allowing for a voluminous look to be achieved
Final thoughts
I highly recommend this gel for anyone after soft, bouncy and defined curls! Layered with a curl cream, this gel delivers beautiful, healthy results.
