Hi! My name is Sarah & this is my curl routine. I’ve been wearing my curls natural since 2019. My transition process was a lengthy one, but I am glad to have gone on it. Today, I’m going to go through my current curl routine in depth.
About my hair
I have thick & coarse 3b-3c curls. Natural, my hair is hip length. When straightened, it goes far past my hips (yes, sitting down with my hair straightened can become awkward). My curls are medium-high porosity.
Shower
My shower products alternate, but most times I’ll Innersense Organic Beauty Pure Harmony Hairbath use to wash my curls. I rub the shampoo in my hands to awaken/emulsify the cleanser. Then I massage it in, focusing on my roots.
To condition, I alternate between Inahsi Naturals Mango Hemp Restorative Masque and Inahsi Naturals Mango Hemp Masque (Travel Size). Inahsi have MASTERED the art of conditioners. I can’t recommend them enough!
Every second week, I clarify my curls. This is where it gets fun. Clarifying is just an extra deep clean. Curls need to be deeply cleansed to help products sit in them better. My deep cleansing products are so fun to use. It’s hard to choose a favourite, but Flora & Curl Coconut Mint Curl Refresh Clay Wash is the most clarifying wash I’ve ever used. It feels amazing to put on.
Another grea option is Rizos Curls Apple Cider Vinegar Scalp & Hair Rinse. This is oddly refreshing and I love the bottle it comes it. It has a little nozzle at the top and you just squeeze the product onto your scalp.
Styling
I’m currently adoring From Duella Leave In Conditioner. I use my Flexi Gentle Detangling & Styling Brush distribute the product and then Denman Classic D3 Styling Brush 7 Row to help create curl clumps. The texture is so light yet super nourishing. I seal in the moisture and curl clumps with Bouclème Super Hold Styler. I gently scrunch this gel into my curls.
Drying
I let my curls air dry. I never diffuse because:
a) I live in a hot, tropical location, so there’s no need to
b) my hair is extremely long & thick
c) It takes up too much time for my liking
Sleeping
I use my Vegan Silk Bonnet at night. I tie my curls into a pineapple or bun and then put my vegan silk bonnet on top. It has an adjustable toggle, so I adjust it to fit me perfectly. This really helps my curls stay defined and reduces knots big time. When your hair is this long, knots are 10x worse, so anything to reduce knots is immediately loved by me!
Refresh
Refreshing is genuinely so fun. I have my go-to duo that works so well for me. I use Rizos Curls Beach Waves Texturizing Salt Spray to reactivate my curls and smooth out frizz. I then use Rizos Curls Alcohol-Free Volumizing Hair Spray on my roots for extra volume.
