What makes it different

• Mango butter is genuinely uncommon. Most curl butters lead on shea. Mango seed butter is lighter on the strand while still sealing, which is why this one does not feel as heavy as its ingredient list suggests.
• Certified organic through most of the base. Sunflower, sweet almond, coconut, avocado, jojoba and argan are all certified organic in this formula.
• It doubles as a body balm. The same jar works on dry hands, elbows and legs, which is not something most styling products can say.

Worth knowing before you buy: this is pure oils and butters, so on fine or low porosity hair even a small amount will read as greasy and will need a proper shampoo to remove. Start with less than you think, keep it to your ends, and treat it as a finishing step rather than a daily cream. It also contains sweet almond oil, which matters if you have a nut allergy.

This is a sealing and finishing product, so it goes on last rather than first. It works on damp or dry hair.

1. Style your hair as usual first, with your leave-in, cream or gel on damp hair. This pomade goes over the top of all of it.
2. Scoop a small amount onto your palms and rub them together until it melts and turns clear. It is solid in the jar and it needs your body heat to spread.
3. Smooth it over damp or dry hair from root to tip, then style as you want it. Use it to seal moisture in, to smooth a finished style, or as a hot oil treatment.
4. Air dry or diffuse on low heat. There is no cast to scrunch out, because this is a butter rather than a gel.
5. Rub whatever is left on your palms into your hands, arms or legs. It works on the body as well as the hair.

Pro tip
Seal onto damp hair, never onto dry. A butter this rich locks in whatever state your hair is in, so putting it on a dry strand seals the dryness in rather than the moisture. Store it somewhere cool and out of direct sunlight so it does not go soft.
