Why you'll love it

Five oils and nothing padding them out.
Bahamian castor oil leads, with mango, moringa and jojoba behind it and vitamin E to keep the blend stable. There is no water, no silicone and no filler, which is why a few drops go a long way. Use it on the scalp, smooth it through your ends, or massage it into damp skin after a shower.

What makes it different

  • It is a short ingredient list. Five oils, a preservative and a phthalate free fragrance. If you react to complicated formulas, there is very little here to react to.
  • Jojoba does the absorbing. It is the closest plant oil to your own sebum, which is what keeps a castor oil blend from sitting greasy on the scalp.
  • One bottle, three uses. Scalp, lengths and skin, so it is not a single purpose product taking up space in the cupboard.

Worth knowing before you buy: castor oil is genuinely thick. On fine hair even a few drops through the lengths will read as greasy, so keep it to the scalp and the last few centimetres of your ends. It is also fragranced, which will not suit you if you are sensitive to scent.

How to use

This oil is used three ways. Kurlee Belle give directions for the scalp, the lengths and the skin, and they are below in that order.

  1. For the scalp, part dry hair into sections and apply two to three drops directly to the area you are treating, twice daily.
  2. Massage it in with the pads of your fingers, not your nails, working in small circles across the whole section before you move on.
  3. For the lengths, warm a few drops between your palms and smooth them over dry hair daily, focusing on the ends and keeping it off the roots.
  4. For the skin, massage it into damp skin straight after a shower, while the water is still on you.
  5. No drying step is needed. This goes on dry hair and stays in, so there is no cast to scrunch out and nothing to rinse.

Pro tip
Warm the drops between your palms before they touch your hair. Castor oil is thick, and cold oil pulls at the strand and lands in patches instead of spreading.

Key Ingredients

Hero ingredients

  • Bahamian castor seed oil, first on the list and the backbone of the blend. It is thick and it coats, which is exactly what a scalp oil is for.
  • Mango seed oil, which Kurlee Belle include to add body to the strand.
  • Moringa seed oil, a light oil used here to condition the scalp.
  • Jojoba oil, which is closest of any plant oil to the sebum your own scalp makes, so it absorbs rather than sitting greasy on the skin.
  • Vitamin E, which keeps the oils in the bottle from going rancid and adds shine on the hair.
