A deep treatment with no protein in it at all, which is rarer than it should be.
Most deep treatments lean on protein to make hair feel stronger, and for protein-sensitive curls that is exactly the wrong move. This one gets its results from butters, oils and a humectant instead. Avocado and coconut oil soften the strand, honey extract draws water in, and behentrimonium methosulfate gives you enough slip to detangle without tearing.

What makes it different

• Moisture, not protein. If your hair has gone stiff and snappy from a protein-heavy routine, this is the treatment that lets you rebalance without adding more of the thing causing it.
• It is a genuine detangler as well as a treatment. Behentrimonium methosulfate near the top of the list means you can do your whole wash day detangle while it sits.
• Ten minutes is enough. This is not a treatment you have to sleep in. Built for a normal wash day rather than a whole afternoon.

Worth knowing before you buy: it contains honey extract, so it is not vegan. It is also a moisture treatment only. If your hair is damaged or over-processed and genuinely needs rebuilding, you will want a protein treatment in your rotation as well as this one.

Use this after shampooing, in place of your usual conditioner, on hair that is still soaking wet. It is a rinse-out treatment.

1. Shampoo first, then squeeze the water out so the treatment is not diluted straight off your hands.
2. Section soaking wet hair into four and apply a golf ball to each section on shoulder length hair, concentrating on the mid-lengths and ends. Keep it off the roots.
3. Smooth it down each section with praying hands so every strand is coated, then detangle from the ends upwards with your fingers or a wide tooth comb.
4. Leave it on for ten to fifteen minutes. Clip your hair up or cover it with a shower cap to hold the warmth in.
5. Rinse thoroughly with cool water, then style on soaking wet hair without letting it dry out in between.
6. Squeeze out excess water with a microfibre towel or an old cotton tee, then air dry or diffuse on low heat.

Pro tip
Heat is what turns a good deep treatment into a great one. A warm towel or a shower cap for the last ten minutes opens the cuticle and lets far more of it in, and it costs you nothing.

• Behentrimonium methosulfate, the detangler doing the heavy lifting. It is what lets you work a comb through a knot without tearing it.
• Avocado oil, rich in the fatty acids dry hair is short of, and small enough to get past the cuticle rather than sitting on top of it.
• Honey extract, a humectant that pulls water into the strand and holds it there while the treatment sits.
• Coconut oil and banana, which soften the lengths and add the slip that makes wet hair manageable.
