Most edge controls are hold and nothing else, which is rough on the finest, most fragile hair you have. This one holds with polyvinylpyrrolidone but carries castor oil, coconut oil, keratin, biotin and fenugreek alongside it, plus aloe, calendula and chamomile for the scalp underneath. It doubles as a scalp treatment you can massage in.

Use on dry or lightly damp hair along the hairline, once the rest of your style is finished. This is a finishing step, not a wash day one.

1. Finish your style first. Put your hair up or back the way you want it before you touch the edges.
2. Take a pea sized amount on your fingertip for the whole hairline. It is a firm gel and more than that will go white and flake.
3. Smooth it along the hairline with your finger, then brush the baby hairs into the shape you want with a soft edge brush or an old toothbrush.
4. Massage a little into the scalp itself if you are using it as a scalp treatment rather than an edge control.
5. Tie a satin scarf over the hairline for a few minutes to set it flat, then take it off. Air dry only, no heat needed.
6. Wash it out at your next cleanse. This gel is designed to hold, so let your shampoo remove it rather than reapplying over the top day after day.

Pro tip
Less gel and a softer brush will always beat more gel and a hard one. Edges break easily, and the damage we see most often in the salon comes from scrubbing product into the hairline rather than from the product itself.
