How to use your type 3 kit
The exact products in your box are chosen for you, so this is the routine to run them in. Type 3 curls live or die on clumping, so every step below is about forming clumps and then not disturbing them.

1. Cleanse the scalp on wet hair, massaging with the pads of your fingers rather than your nails, and let the suds rinse through the lengths on their own.
2. Apply conditioner generously through the mid-lengths and ends. Detangle from the ends upwards with your fingers or a wide tooth comb while it is still in your hair.
3. Rinse with cool water and leave your hair soaking wet. Do not squeeze it out yet. Everything from here happens on dripping hair.
4. Section into four. Rake your cream or leave-in through each section from roots to ends, smooth it down the length with praying hands, then scrunch upwards.
5. Scrunch your gel in over the top, section by section, until you hear it squelch. Scrunch it, never rake it. Raking a gel through pulls apart the clumps you just made.
6. Squeeze out the excess water with a microfibre towel or an old cotton tee, or plop into it for ten minutes. Never use a bath towel.
7. Diffuse on low heat, cupping sections into the bowl and holding still, or air dry. Hands off until completely dry, then scrunch the cast out with your hands.

Pro tip
A cast is a good sign, not a bad one. It means the gel is holding the shape while your hair dries. Scrunching it out at the end gives you soft curls that still hold. Skipping the gel to avoid the cast is why definition falls out by lunchtime.
