Waking up with your bonnet on the floor is always discouraging. There really isn't a point in wearing a bonnet if it ends up falling off. To ensure it doesn't fall off, you need to consider two factors: 1) your role in keeping in on, and 2) the type of bonnet you use.

Your role in keeping your bonnet on

Scrunchie

Your scrunchie needs to fit your hair well whilst remaining comfortable. if you use a scrunchie that is too loose, your hair can sink and pull. If you use a scrunchie too tight, it can be uncomfortable. You need to find the perfect balance between comfort and fit.

Hair placement

It’s important to flip your hair upside down because this allows you to tie your hair really high up. Tie your hair as close to your forehead as possible. Some strands might fall in your face – but once you put the bonnet on and tuck these strands in, this won’t be an issue. It’s important to tie your hair up high to avoid sleeping on it. If you were to tie your hair at the crown of your head, you could end up sleeping on it and crushing it in your sleep. Keep your hair tied up high that way when you lie down, you won’t lie on it.

Head size/hair thickness

Head size and hair thickness/length will play parts in how tight you need to adjust your bonnet. Use the adjustable element to find the perfect fit. It might take some trial and error before you find the perfect fit.

Alternate hairstyles

The pineapple hairstyle is the most common method, but can also do a ponytail or bun. Whatever you do, ensure that your hair is tied up high on your head and tight enough to stay put.

The bonnet's role

Unfortunately, there are a lot of bonnets on the market that don't actually work. In order for a bonnet to work properly, it needs to have an adjustable element and it needs to have plenty of room to fit your hair.

Adjustable element

The two best types of adjustable elements include a ribbon or a toggle. Both work just as well. Most adjustable bonnets will also feature a form of ruching. Bonnets can be ruched all the way around the circumference or just on a small section. If you are prone to headaches, it is best to avoid bonnets with ruching all around the circumference.

Size

If a bonnet falls off, it could be because it is too small. It is much better to order a larger bonnet than what you need than a smaller bonnet. Larger bonnets don't have any risk of falling off due to their size, whereas smaller ones do. Bonnets that have a diameter of 30cm-35cm are a sweet spot. They are big enough to hold your hair comfortably without being too big and floppy.

Still falling off?

If your bonnet is still falling off, this is most likely due to your hair being tied too loosely or too low on your head. It will take some trial and error to work out the correct hairstyle, placement and tightness to tie your hair. Keep trying and soon you will find your perfect routine :)

All our bonnets have an adjustable element which helps immensely with keeping the bonnet on all night. All our bonnets are between the 30cm-35cm size range, making them the perfect fit for all hair lengths and types.
