If you’ve recently spent some time in a beach or a pool, there are steps you can take to restore and reset your hair back to its normal pattern.
Since pools have cleaning chemicals, they can impact your hair. Beaches aren’t as bad, but they do end up drying and frizzing up your hair. Regardless of where you’ve been swimming, follow this routine for your next one or two wash days and you’ll get back to normal soon!
What Not To Do
Stay away from clarifying shampoos/treatments. These products cleanse the hair through stripping it. There is definitely a time and a place for this (like to remove product buildup) but when your hair is already dried out, it’s best to stay away from these products. When you get to the styling stage, avoid drying products (such as gels and mousses).
What To Do
Start with a restoring shampoo and follow up with a hydrating deep conditioner. Check out my article on Benefits of Hair Masks for more information on deep treatments. When it comes to styling, stick with a leave-in conditioner or a softening product. I normally only use one leave-in product to avoid overloading my hair.
In summary, don’t be afraid of swimming. By using the proper methods and products, you can restore your hair back to its normal pattern.
